How did your Ultimate Journey begin?
My BFF Susan Chapman. After months of hearing all about the fun she had been having getting into such great shape and meeting healthy like-minded people, I figured I'd better take my mum's advice and try it out. My very first class was Barre with Paula. I never thought a class that involved a blue roller and a small weighted ball could be such a great workout. Go try it, you won't regret it! Warning: you may be sore for days afterwards... it’s that good. Oh and Paula’s playlists are kick@ss.
What’s the most rewarding part of crushing a workout at the gym?
I think the lift in energy. If I walk into the gym feeling a little tired or sluggish, I always leave feeling revitalized — like I can tackle the world.
What have you learned about balancing health and wellness with you career?
I travel a lot for work, so staying healthy and working out is key to my mental and physical well-being. Even when I travel I make sure to hit the hotel gym each morning. What else is there to do when you're jet-lagged and up at 5am? Staying on track with health and physical activity helps balance the day-to-day stress that life can bring.
What keeps you coming through our doors?
The friendly faces at the front door, the new friendships I have created in the gym, watching Paula crush workouts, and most importantly the feeling of being rewarded daily for my hard work.
Right now, Pilates. I am a creature of habit so when I love something I really stick to it. If I am not away or traveling for work, I try to get in a minimum of three Pilates classes per week. If you haven’t tried Vic’s new class yet, what are you waiting for?
Go-to/favourite meal post workout?
Morning workout — It’s a two-step process. First I pick up my favorite Green Tea Almond Milk Latte at Boxcar Social, and then I stroll down to Greenhouse to grab my on-the-go breakfast of choice, Rio Deal Smoothie (Ginger, Almond Milk). Did I mention I was a creature of habit ;)
Night-time workout — Well since Pantry just opened up, I will often walk down there after a workout and grab a yummy meal on-the-go OR should I feel like cooking I will grab a 7-ounce piece of salmon from Pisces (baked in coconut oil, with pumpkin seeds sprinkled on top) along with asparagus, arugula salad with avocado, and dark chocolate for dessert.
I also work with a Holistic Nutritionist, @BeyondTheBite, who has taught me how to eat best for my body type and what I need to fuel my fitness to ensure I hit my goals.
What’s in your gym bag?
Spin shoes (in case I want to catch a last-minute spin), workout gloves, water bottle, and BioSteel drink mix for hydration and re-fuel during and post workout.
What keeps you coming back?
Where do I start? Paula and seeing my mum working her tail off in Pilates class. Something really special working out with her. When we can, we grab a tea after at Boxcar and catch up on the week's events. I am a results-driven person, so when I see results I keep coming back for more!
Any advice to those who haven’t been to Ultimate?
